What Is Myelination?
In George Oppen’s poem of “Of Being Numerous” (1968), he begins with the truism: to see and experience “the things we live among is to know ourselves”. This is central to who we are because we believe that built spaces ought to contribute significantly to who we are and more importantly, who we are trying to become. Conversely, if said spaces interfere with out desired outcomes, there is work to be done.
Myelination, is a borrowed-word from the neuroscience world. It expresses our intention to strategically refine built environments to improve people’s lives and especially to facilitate being better! Our process centers on the idea that if you are trying to be a better or the best version of yourself - include those who live with you - your various efforts and disciplines ought to be enhanced by the spaces you inhabit. This means poor designs which interfere ought to be addressed as well.
